Helping individuals and families to successfully overcome addiction with effective interventions in Hawaii

Hawaii Drug Intervention Services

Only a small fraction of people in Hawaii in need of drug rehab actually get the help they need. That is why a drug intervention in Hawaii may be what is needed to get your loved one into a quality addiction treatment center that can really help them.

The Hawaiian Islands are made up of eight major islands and a 1,500 mile chain of islets, covering 6,422.6 square miles in the North Central Pacific Ocean. Hawaii is populated by approximately 1.2 million people, with the largest ethnic variety in any of the states. All of the illegal drugs that are available on the mainland can also be found in the islands, with crystal methamphetamine (ice), marijuana, cocaine HCl, crack cocaine, heroin, and predatory drugs being the leading threats in the state.

There are five major drugs of abuse that make up 95 percent of all drug rehab admissions that may require an intervention in Hawaii. These are alcohol, opiates (mainly heroin and prescription painkillers), marijuana, cocaine and other stimulants such as methamphetamine.

As part of the Los Angeles Field Division, the Honolulu District Office (HDO) is located 2,500 miles from the continental United States. The HDO has an Area of Responsibility (AOR) that encompasses the State of Hawaii, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and American Samoa. The majority of drugs are brought into the HDO area of responsibility by aircraft passengers or through the use of shipping companies and the U.S. postal service. Hawaii has several airports and airfields on six of the eight islands. The largest of the airports is the Honolulu International Airport on Oahu. In any given year, there are more than seven million visitors to the Islands. The majority of the incoming flights originate from the U.S. mainland, Canada, and Asia.

An imortant piece of information for you to have is that, contrary to popular opinion, alcoholism and other drug addiction is not an incurable disease. People become cured from this ailment every single day and never go back to using drugs or alcohol. In addition, giving substitute drugs to addicts will never solve the problem. Sure, a prescription here or there might temporarily treat the symptoms and make them feel better, but their body and mind will still be dependent on drugs to function in life and they will therefore always be looking for drugs as a solution to life's problems.
