Parents with drug-abusing children often ask themselves, "How long should we wait finding a rehab program?"

The answer is simple. Not long.

If you see signs of drug or alcohol abuse, do not wait. Find out what is going on and do not expect that your son or daughter will not need help to get through the addiction. Assume they will need rehab, and find a good drug rehab program. Have it ready for your son or daughter to go into right away for when things (and they most assuredly will) go bad.

Most assuredly your son or daughter will try to tell you they can do it on their own and that they don’t need help. The chances of this are slim to none.

Remember that drugs and alcohol change a person's personality very rapidly. You can not trust someone who is using drugs or alcohol habitually. Take control of the situation--their life could depend on it. Remember once they agree to get help than make sure they are being escorted into a drug rehab center.
Through my personal experiences I have come to a conclusion about short-term vs long-term drug rehab which I feel must be shared so others do not waste time like I did.

My family spent countless hours and dollars on short-term drug rehab programs for my brother’s heroin addiction. We flew him to Mexico to the most expensive and luxurious 30-day program we could find. We tried the free, government-funded programs. We tried both extremes and everything in between before realizing: he needs more time.

How long does it take to completely change your way of life when you have become dependent on a substance(s) to get you through the day? Ask any addict who attended a 30 day inpatient drug rehab? It’s possible, but not common. Many try, many fail.

We found an individualized program in Oklahoma which he was at for 4-6 months. He successfully completed it and has been sober now for 7 years.
I hope this helps you in your search for an effective drug rehab program.
Loved ones who call and wonder what is next after rehab seem to get worried about the results of treatment. Any effective type of drug rehab should offer an extensive aftercare program. When a person enters into a long term treatment center, usually the stay is around four to six months. This is ample time for a person to be rehabilitated but does not guarantee success which is why aftercare is vital. Some programs offer extensive job training or even better have a training program for all graduates. Many times when a person enters into a drug rehab program they start feeling good and they become more responsible.

Instead of their previous behavior where all they were worried about was finding money for their habit and how to satisfy their addiction to drugs and alcohol, now after being properly rehabilitated them want to help. Honestly, the best drug and alcohol counselor is one who has had an addiction problem themselves and understands what it takes to be successful in recovery. They funny thing about addicted individuals is they don’t want to listen to a person who can not relate or is not real. A doctor, nurse, therapist or counselor who has never taken drugs telling a patient in rehab that they “understand” can really frustrate a patient and cause for distrust issues.

Many drug and alcohol rehab programs that do offer professional medical care but also counselors who not only have great formal education but also have had experiences with abuse with drugs and alcohol makes for one of the most effective counselors in the rehabilitation field. They can be looked at as a role model and person that offer hope in such a bleak outlook for many.
How much does a drug rehab facility cost? This is a common question for many people searching to find an alcohol drug treatment center either for themselves or for a loved one. Most of the inpatient drug treatment facilities are either private pay or offer some type of insurance reimbursement. Don’t get frustrated when you insurance company will only pay for a 21 through a 30 day drug rehab. Sometimes what families do is get insurance to pay for part of the program that work out the rest of the payment. Just remember that any effective drug rehab program is going to cost money. It’s worth it and anything that can save a person from drug or alcohol addiction is like giving a person their life back and a fresh start.

Even most effective medical centers will cost money. Though that is one type of treatment that insurance is very good about paying is for medical treatment but keep in mind that a drug rehab center should always follow. Keep in mind that a medical treatment facility is not enough treatment though. All its doing is to allow an addicted individual come off of certain prescription drugs, opiates and alcohol safely. It is not a long term solution and does not provide any sort of solution to addiction except for medical treatment in the first week of rehabilitation. If a person can only afford a detox and does not have insurance to then pay for treatment than trying an outpatient program would then be the best step. Talking to a counselor or attending meetings or getting a sponsor can help a person through rough spots when trying to overcome drug or alcohol addiction.
Sometimes a person is not willing to get help and enter into a drug rehab so in this case an intervention is necessary. Drug and alcohol interventions are very effective when an addicted individual is not ready. Families should not worry if when they approach their loved one about treatment and they say no or don’t seem interested or even deny any usage of drugs or alcohol.

Colorado drug interventions are necessary for a resident of Colorado who’s loved one does not accept help. Whether its friends, families, employees, or maybe a girlfriend or boyfriend, every effort to get that person to rehab who is suffering from their addiction is vital. Many times it’s a matter of life and death for a person to get into an inpatient drug rehab. Never give up and certainly don’t listen to the person who has the addiction problem because they will tell you exactly what you want to hear.

Every once in a while a person who has been asked to got to rehab will finally give in. Sometimes a drug and alcohol intervention is not even necessary. As soon as a person agrees to go don’t wait. Book the flights or pack the car and be on your way. If they want to see friends and family don’t let them. Family can visit while they are being treated for the drug addiction or alcoholism. One thing to always remember is never give up. Even though it may seem like they don’t want the help, remember addiction leads to death or jail.
Why is addiction labeled a disease? Many people think that when a person is addicted to drugs and alcohol that they will be an addict or alcoholic for life. Last time I checked, a disease is something that can usually show up on a blood test, a disease is not something that can be tested by asking questions or is some type of opinion. So why is it so important to say that drug and alcohol addiction is a disease? Money. That’s right, the pharmaceutical industry and rehabilitation industry are profiting at making addiction a disease. If a person is able to overcome his or her addiction to drugs and alcohol then why do then need to feel or be told that they are still an addict or that their disease is in remission.

What we believe is that addiction is a very big problem in society but that something can be done about. We believe that we proper rehabilitation and training that a person can not only overcome his or her problem with drugs but also end up becoming a better person. Ethics, morals, education, communication, health, self-control, self-esteem, spirituality, and a general sense of happiness are all components of a person not going back to drugs and alcohol.

So if you a person that finds themselves feeling depressed about that they are addicted to drugs and alcohol, hopefully this will give you inspiration to know that you can overcome it. Finding an effective drug rehab program is the first step but than after that is complete establishing some good goals is also very important. The mind is a wonderful tool and you can do anything or have anything as long as you put your mind to it.
Drug and alcohol treatment has become one of the most important things in the state of Texas. A Texas drug rehab which has a great success rate can help thousands of people overcome their addiction to drugs and alcohol. Many times a person who enters into a Texas drug treatment should remember that going in with an open is key. If you are looking at finding effective treatment keep in mind that the only way a facility can help you is if you listen and really apply what you learn.

Most programs in Texas should provide not only detox but also some type of residential setting in which a person can receive counseling and therapy. Stay away from addiction treatment centers that all they want to do is load a person up on medications like antidepressants, and psychotropic drugs. Of course sometimes certain drugs are necessary in a treatment setting but they can certainly be over prescribed, especially as a way to address underlying issues.

In this day an age remember most drug rehabs in Texas are traditional and offer the 12 step program which believes is an incurable disease and that the person with the addiction problem is powerless to his disease. Our goal is to not stray you away from 12 step drug rehabs but to enlighten you that there are other programs out there that offer an alternative type of treatment.
What kind of treatment is most effective for alcohol and drug addiction. Cocaine Treatment and Heroin Treatment are both forms of rehabilitation that offer a more detail oriented program. A person who has a cocaine addiction is not going to have the same problems as a person addicted to heroin or vice versa. Not to mention an individual addicted to alcohol or prescription drugs could have a totally different dependency which would result in different mental conditions. Generally any type of cocaine drug rehab is going to offer long term care with counseling and detox. If you need a heroin drug rehab make sure that they offer a medical detox and have a physician who is familiar with heroin withdraw. Not any doctor or physician is familiar with withdraw from drugs. Most heroin addicts don't even realize that most of the withdraw symptoms are a lack of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Obviously medical drugs are used to curb these flu like symptoms but accompanied with the pharmaceuticals should be vitamin and mineral drips.

Sometimes during a drug intervention a person may need to take some xanax or valium depending on the level of addiction. A person with a severe addiction to heroin, methadone, or any other type of opiate can suffer serious withdraw problems. Most drug interventions require some type of traveling and in many instances call for taking an airplane. A trained intervention specialist will be prepared medicall to transfer the addicted individual.

Alcohol and drug interventions are not always successful during the first attempt. Many times an intervention will draw out a few days, a few weeks and sometimes even months. Most residential drug rehabs understand that when a drug intervention fails the first time that staying on top of the addict or alcoholic is vital. Throwing in the towel if he or she does not go to treatment right away is the wrong attitude to have. As a team you must not give up and know that these things are never easy. Drug and alcohol addiction requires the ultimate love sometimes is knowing what is best for the person even if it hearts so much doing it. On occasion a family will have to cut off all ties with the addicted individual which includes communication, financial assistance, emotional support, and shelter.
A long term drug rehab is the most effective form of treatment once the intervention has been successful. Most drug and alcohol rehabs that provide treatment should offer a long term solution like aftercare and job training. During the intervention don’t bring up the cost of the program especially if it’s a private drug rehab , length of stay, or other details that the addicted individual could use to say that he or she does not want to go.
Many families who have a loved one addicted to drugs and alcohol are not sure what to do. Whether to hire a Florida drug intervention or what type of alcohol drug treatment program to send them to. These questions can be tough to figure out especially when you are worried about what could happen as a result of addiction. Florida drug interventions are always an effective way to get an addicted individual into a long term drug rehab. Sometimes residential drug rehabs are not always equip with intervention specialists so the facility itself will recommend certain intervention programs.

Whether you are looking specifically for a drug rehab in Florida or a drug and alcohol intervention in Florida, we always recommend that they refer to drug-free facilities. Some of these drug rehabs are just psychiatric based and are low level drug pushers for the pharmaceutical companies. STAY AWAY from these programs! Generally what these addiction counselors and interventionists will recommend is that addicted individual needs to get on the “right” medications to level out the chemicals in the brain. BE VERY AWARE of these answers.

In any event, finding a holistic drug rehab and an intervention program that will provide more of a motivational and uplifting intervention are the most effective. Remember that realizing your loved one who is addicted needs help and learning about addiction, treatment, and intervention is the first step that many people never take, so well done.
Many young people who head down the path of drug and alcohol abuse find themselves in trouble with law and struggling in school. To many times a teenager will find themselves prescribed anti-depressant medications or certain prescription drugs like Ritalin and ADD medication. Unfortunately these kids will find themselves addicted to their medications prescribed by a doctor or physician. The problem is there are no effective drug rehab programs that provide treatment for alcohol and drug addiction.

An effective drug rehab program will help get to the underlying issues for an individual who finds himself with an addiction problem. Many times a private drug rehab will provide more effective treatment rather than a state funded drug or alcohol rehab program.

Once a drug rehab has been selected now getting the person to accept help and enter into a resdiential facility is the next step. Many residential drug rehabs have a drug intervention program they offer. Usually following the intervention steps is highly successful in getting a person to enter a drug rehab facility.

Getting a person to accept help is one of the easier tasks in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction. Drug and alcohol interventions are generally very effective when they have followed a step by step process and everyone in the family listens to the intervention specialist. Most effective intervention programs have around a 90 percent success rate. What many families fail to address is finding the right type of cocaine treatment or heroin treatment.

Many of the addiction treatment centers offered in America address addiction but don’t offer a treatment program that specializes in a type of addiction like cocaine or heroin. Many of the cocaine and heroin drug rehabs may only be a detox and not offer any sort of long term care. Recently addiction facilities are now promoting that they treat cocaine addiction only or heroin addiction.

A cocaine drug rehab should not focus on detox as much as the underlying issues. Cocaine addiction treatment should provide life skills therapy, cognitive counseling, and some type of social-education program to build self-esteem in areas like literacy and the job world.

A heroin treatment center should focus on the medical detox first than address the underlying issues. Because heroin addiction is so physically addicting many times a person refuses to enter a program because of fear of withdraw symptoms. A heroin drug rehab should not only focus on treatment in the facility but also provide an effective aftercare program.
An Oklahoma drug intervention is necessary for people that live in Oklahoma who can’t their loved one to accept help and enroll into a treatment center. Most people who have a drug or alcohol problem are not ready for help and the family is still enabling which creates a tough situation on the family. Many times the loved ones think they are helping when in actual fact they are creating a bigger problem by making it harder for the addict or alcoholic to accept help.

Drug and alcohol interventions in Oklahoma can be situated almost anywhere. Prime location is to get the addicted individual out of his or her environment. Usually asking the person to come over to the parent’s house for lunch or dinner is the most effective way. With the family waiting at the house the addict or alcoholic comes over and then the intervention begins.

The optimum situation is that the family already has a drug rehab program already selected before the Oklahoma intervention started. The good thing about Oklahoma drug interventions is that there is a long term drug rehab in Oklahoma that has a 78 percent success rate. Our drug intervention specialists generally recommend this program for most addictions because of the long term care.
If a family is planning on doing an intervention on a person who has a history of psychiatric drug use you may want to take some precautions before starting. Contact their doctor or physician who has been prescribing the psychiatric drugs and figure out what and how long these drugs have been prescribed. Don't be misled by a doctor who tells you that the addict is taking only a small dose. Although the risk of harmful drug effects does usually increase with the size of of the dose, some addicts are very sensitive to psychiatric drugs and can suffer extreme side effects.

Unfortunately, psychiatric drugs can affect the brain and mind and seriously impair a persons mental function well before they recognize that anything is the matter. While trying to do an intervention while a person is coming off of a psychiatric drug can make it hard for an interventionist to rationalize with the addict. That is why it is very important to find out what medications or prescribed drugs a person is on before doing an intervention.
